When I went to senior school, at the regular dances and discos me and my friends could usually be found glued to the back wall trying to muster up the courage to ask a girl for a dance. And as usual the night would end with me still firmly pressed up against that back wall.
Even though school and the associated social events seem like the ideal pick up scenario, socially, school crowds develop a pecking order very quickly and various groups have their own ‘clicks’ and this is how the different levels of social acceptance are formed. So depending on which group of friends you are with often determined your luck with the ladies.
Leaving school and becoming a young adult forces us to take measures to meet other people as part of our social development. Even though on the surface school appears like the ideal place to meet many single girls, in reality, school is a small sample or test of many highs and lows that will eventually form our social success or failure.
Without meaning to sound too predictable, bars and night clubs are places frequented by single girls and would seem like the ideal place to meet someone. However, is it the ideal situation to assess potential love interests in crowded, noisy alcohol fueled venues? Besides having to compete with every other hormone raging young guy, we think there are far better places to meet someone to start a meaningful relationship with.
What better way to get to know someone than in a shopping centre. If you spot an opportunity with an attractive girl it’s a golden moment to chat to her about what she is buying, you can comment on her choices and this approach opens the door to lots of fun and uplifting conversation topics about things she likes.
Show your ability to appreciate the finer things that girls love. Most men hate shopping and I for one know that many woman would love to be able to take their man shopping on a regular basis. If you spot an attractive girl in a perfume store, show off your feminine side by commenting on the cute array of products on offer in the store.
Coffee? - what better way to chat to a nice looking girl after a big day of bargain hunting. She will have plenty to chat about and you can offer to critique her new outfits she has just bought.
Book stores - We all love to get an opinion on a book before we purchase. Use your sound knowledge of famous authors to make some helpful recommendations. (or at least try to sound like you’re opinion is worthy) Women love an interesting and intellectual man. If you do make some recommendations, go by something you have actually read so you sound convincing.
And don’t be too proud to look online for love. Dating sites are the new cool way to find romance. In fact, more than 70% of online dating members in Australia are from current generations (18-30 years old) and this form of meeting new people is becoming just as acceptable as Face Book and Twittering.
Whether you decide to end your singles status online or offline, do remember that women like to be made felt special, so any kind and non threatening advances will be welcomed, and at the very least you will get a smile and a thank you for your nice gestures.
